Installing Auto Pilot Day Trading Strategies

Installation order is important. Follow the steps shown here in this order.

Have your TradeStation running

Be sure your TradeStation is running.

It is important that you install the .ELD files in the following order:

Install the Auto Pilot Day Trading strategies and functions
  1. Click on the this link:
    AutoPilotDayTradingTrend-2.0_and_3.0

If it asks whether to open or save, choose open. This should begin importing the strategies into your TradeStation. If it does not, cancel and choose save instead - then do a File/Import on your TradeStation and import the file you just saved. Answer "yes" or "ok" to any questions about importing functions and strategies used by the Auto Pilot Day Trading strategies. It is normal to receive some messages in your Events log about deletions.
  2. Now do the same as for #1 above, using this link: AutoPilotDayTradingRangers-2.0
  3. And this one: AutoPilotDayTradingTrend-2.01
  4. Next import the LICENSE attachment that you received in an email from Auto Pilot Day Trading. Import everything in it and overwrite any functions that already exist.
  5. If you have any "not verified" errors in your Events Log, do a Verify All (see below).
    Install the Alchemy indicators
  6. Now load your Alchemy software, using their instructions in the email you received from Trading Alchemy when you purchased the Alchemy indicators from Trading Alchemy. Even if you have installed the Alchemy software previously, you must reload it at this time, after you have installed the Auto Pilot Day Trading strategies and license.
Install Auto Pilot Day Trading charts workspaces
  7. Install any or all of the workspaces listed here in #6. Install each of them using the instructions in #7.
    AutoPilotDayTrading Charts 1 October 2006

    AutoPilotDayTrading Rangers ES500 13Oct2006

    AutoPilotDayTrading Rangers ES500 17Nov2006
    AutoPilotDayTrading IntrabarER150 17Oct2006
    AutoPilotDayTrading YM 75 2Nov2006
    AutoPilotDayTrading ER30 7Nov2006
    AutoPilotDayTrading_ER150_Intrabar_AM_PM_13Dec2006
AutoPilotDayTrading_NQ61_30Jan2007 Top charts trade T,W,Th,F. Bottom charts trade Monday.
  1. Double click on the link to the workspace in #6.
Choose open, and the workspace should open in your TradeStation. If it does not open in your TradeStation, double click on the link and choose save instead (save to a location where you can find it). Then use your TradeStation to import the file.
The TradeStation Events Log will pop up, with some messages about deleting indicators. This is normal. If there are no trades showing in the charts, check the error log and see if it says the strategy is not verified. If it is not (it actually should be, but sometimes it thinks it is not), follow the "verify all" instructions below.
    Save the workspace
  2. Save each of the workspaces in your MyWork folder, with the name it came with. To save it, right click on the tab at the bottom of your TradeStation window that says "AutoPilotDayTradingCharts_<date>" and choose "save as...", then be sure it will be saved in MyWork, then click save. Do this for each of the three workspaces.
  3. Then save each workspace again with a new name, specific to yourself, such as "MY_AutoPilotDayTrading_WORKSPACE". To do this, right click on the tab at the bottom of your TradeStation window that says "AutoPilotDayTradingCharts_<date>" and choose "save as...". Be sure it is being saved in MyWork, and that it is being saved with your new name, and then click save.
  4. Any changes you make to the charts, make to the new workspace with your name in it. In that way, if you need to, you can always go back to the original charts because you have saved them with no changes.

How to do Verify All

You may not need to do a verify all, but it never causes any harm to do one. Here's how:

  • Open any analysis technique or strategy. (If you don't know how, see Opening Analysis Techniques and Strategies in the box to the right.)
  • Use the View - EasyLanguage PowerEditor Preferences menu sequence to open the EasyLanguage Preferences dialog box.
  • Click the General tab.
  • In the Advanced section, click Verify All . Note: The verification process may take a few minutes.
  • Click OK at the confirmation dialog box.
Save your Auto Pilot Day Trading Strategies and Alchemy Download Information

You may need to reinstall your Auto Pilot Day Trading strategies or your Alchemy indicators at a future date. Save the installation emails from Auto Pilot Day Trading (or, if your installation was a download from the Auto Pilot Day Trading website, bookmark the Auto Pilot Day Trading download page). Bookmark the Alchemy download page (or, if you requested a cd from Alchemy, save the Alchemy cd somewhere wher you can find it).

A Successful Installation

You should now see trades in your workspace. You know you are seeing trades if you see something like the example below, with blue and red arrows where the trades are entered, and blue dotted lines to exits that are profitable, and red dotted lines to exits that are losses.

:

If you do not see trades in your charts, contact support.

Save the Workspace

Save the workspace in your "Mywork" folder. Never change anything in this workspace. To set up for autotrading or for any changes in the parameters of the strategy, copy a window from this workspace (right click on the chart and choose "copy window") and open a new workspace and paste the window into the new workspace (right click anywhere in the new workspace and chose "paste window"). Then make the changes to the new window in the new workspace. That way you will always have the originals to go back to if you need them.

Troubleshooting

Q: The price data on my TradeStation charts does not look like the same price data as is showing on the charts in the Auto Pilot Day Trading demo room. How do I fix that?

A: You may have delayed data, or not have the correct data feeds set up on your TradeStation. Call TradeStation support and tell them you are planning to trade ER, YM, ES and NQ, and that you need CBOT and CME data. They will be able to provide that.

Q: My strategy is verified and Format Strategies indicates that it is running (status is "on"), but it takes no trades. What's up with that?
A: First, reinstall your LICENSE ELD file. If that doesn't do it, be sure your chart has enough back data. It needs some history before it can take any trades. There must be at least MaxBarsBack bars on the chart. You can check MaxBarsBack from Format Strategies, Properties.

Q: Whenever I turn the strategy status to on, the events log pops up, and the strategy immediately turns its status to off. The error in the event log is "FileAppend function failed."
A: Be sure the parameter doPostToHotComm is 0 (near the bottom of the parameters).

Opening Analysis Techniques and Strategies

Select the File - Open EasyLanguage Document menu sequence.

At the Select Analysis Type drop-down box, select the type of document that you want to open (that is, ActivityBar, Function, Indicator, and so on). (In this case it doesn't matter what you open. Just open one.)

Select the name of the analysis technique or strategy. (In this case it doesn't matter what you open. Just open one.)

Click Open.

Now go back and continue executing the How to Verify All instructions on the left.
